It's Time To Celebrate!!

I reached a major milestone today! I have been doing freelance work via Fiverr and other websites (and just in general on my own as well) and today was a major milestone for my freelance work. I was blessed to have been contacted through email by a Jamaican tourism agency in regards to managing their Wordpress website (as part of my freelance services). This is my very first client from somewhere that is not in the United States!

I think that what I want to emphasize most about this accomplishment is the fact that you should never give up on your goals and dreams because believe me I have wanted to give up many times because freelance work can be stressful, draining and just super tedious to deal with, especially if you haven't really gotten your name out there yet. (Like me.) :)

Today I was thinking back on all of those times when I was so frustrated that I even went so far as to consider shutting down my freelance profiles and my website because I didn't see the benefit of being involved in the game of luck that is freelance work. You never know when someone will find you/ your site and need the services that you have to offer. If I would have given up in those times when I was feeling discouraged, I would not have been able to be posting about this accomplishment today. I am proud of myself for not giving up on my goal of providing for myself. Because I was so excited about the opportunity to work with this new client, I completed their work super quick and they told me that they had approximately 25 (possibly more) other projects that they would need to be done in the near future and that they planned on coming back to use my services again when that time comes.

I'm not trying to brag, but I feel super proud of myself today and I feel like I have come a long way from where I used to be professionally. Celebrate with me!!

Being Abused & Being Judged

As a survivor of domestic violence, one of the things I honestly hate the most is hearing people criticize other people who are in a situation where they are having to deal with abuse. I hate it when people comment and say things like, “Well, if that was me, I would have left a long time ago.” It's much easier said than done when you're actually in the situation, though, and I wish there was a way that I could make people understand that. My first abusive relationship started shortly after I graduated from high school (a few years at most). Looking back on it now I recognize the warning signs and can see when the behavior started in him but when it was happening I thought it was just regular relationship arguing and drama. Anywho, I had people (so-called friends) who thought it was helpful to throw their comments in there about what I should be doing with my life and how I should have recognized it long before I did and because of the fact that I didn't, I somehow wanted to be abused!

Who, in their right mind, actually WANTS to be abused?? I have never met anyone who does (aside from people who have certain fetishes, of course). My question, though, to the people who want to comment on what the person should be doing to make their situation better is: What are you doing to help them? Have you offered them a way to get away from that situation they're currently in? Have you offered to help them get connected with people or an organization who CAN help them if you can't really do anything to help yourself (or if you aren't exactly sure what you can do to help)?

I guess what I'm trying to say is that I honestly don't think you're really helping the situation at all by commenting on things that you know nothing about. If you have never been abused or dealt with something like that before in your life, who are you to judge those of us who have? With my second abuser I was in and out of the emergency room so much and my last visit the doctors told me that I was lucky to be alive.

When I was dealing with the abuse I would have loved to have been able to talk to someone and share my experiences with that person. Just to have someone to confide in would have been great. That's what really matters at the end of the day. If you can't do anything else for someone in an abusive situation, even if you can just be a supportive confidant, that makes a huge difference.

I hope that one day people will be able to stop being so judgmental (but I know that's wishful thinking). I think you would be able to affect more people if you take the positive road and offer them support or at least try to find them someone who is able to give them the support they need. Instead of asking why this person sticks around and deals with the abuse, ask them what you can do to help. Maybe that person has been praying for a solution.

As for me, if you would like to know more of my domestic violence story, I would be willing to share my experiences (and I have multiple videos pertaining to my experience on my YouTube channel: TheMizzmercury). I am also a supporter of anyone going through a hard time (whether it be domestic violence or whatever the case may be). Feel free to reach out to me if you need someone to talk to or if there's something you need help with and I will do my best to either help you myself or hook you up with resources who can.

Be Blessed and Believe in Yourself-I know you can do it :)

Working From Home

When people find out that I work from home, one of the first things they usually ask me is, “What do you do” and “How can I do that?” Honestly, I have been doing online work from home since shortly after I graduated from high school (although back then I only got a few freelance gigs every once in awhile and now I have consistent work). I still take on the occasional freelance gig from time to time (I offer my services on websites such as Fiverr and I also just offer my services to people in general (without going through a service or website).

In the years I have spent looking for ways to make money online, I have encountered my fair share of get rich quick schemes, data entry scams, and other “work at home” opportunities that just turned out to be anything but legit. Don't let that get you discouraged, though. I know of a plethora of legit companies who have either just an online presence or have both a brick and mortar type of store/office as well as an online workplace.

I enjoy doing virtual assistant work the most out of anything else that I have done. Through the work I have done as a virtual assistant I have: met celebrities, was given the chance to be in a movie that debuted at Burning Man, and learned a lot of valuable skills that would be able to give me opportunities at “real” jobs (at least I hope they would!). I think the main reason why I love being a virtual assistant so much is because I'm always doing something different. Of course I might have the same types of tasks to do all the time (making phone calls, scheduling appointments, data entry, internet research, verification of information, proofreading & editing, etc.), but I enjoy doing the admin type of work and I enjoy the variety (yes, even in the most boring, lengthy tasks). For example, I recently completed a gig on Fiverr for someone who needed pages and pages of part numbers written down in an Excel spreadsheet and although the task was lengthy and obviously not something that most people would look forward to doing, I took on the task with excitement because I knew at the end of the day I was helping my client and that's what really matters to me.

For those of you who may be wanting to look into finding legitimate jobs online so you can work from home too, stay tuned to the blog because I will be posting more information on where I found the legit jobs and also give you an idea of the amount that the jobs pay (for those that I have previously been paid on).

Never give up on your dreams no matter how silly other people may think they are!

Hello!!

I have been posting videos on my YouTube channel for quite some time now, but I figured that I would expand into the world of blogging! :) I am not sure how many people (if any) will actually be reading this blog, but I hope that I am able to somehow inspire and encourage people through this blog over time. I plan to have this blog cover a whole array of different topics that pertain to everyday life and may also dabble into some fashion, beauty, cooking and more!

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:
So I imagine that you may want to know more about me, the person at the keyboard. I am a 26 year old college student, currently living in Indiana. I have medical issues that have me unable to work a “normal” job currently, so I have dabbled in work from home websites and also done some freelancing work as the gigs come my way. I love music, movies, sports, the outdoors, being able to spend time with the people I love and I basically try to just enjoy life and make the most out of everything that comes my way. I am currently working on my Bachelor's Degree in Graphic Design (although previously I was going to nursing school, and I plan on eventually going back, if my health allows me to. I have a range of different hobbies from playing music to singing to cooking to photography and of course videography (as my YouTube channel demonstrates).

Well, I think that's enough about me for now. Until next time, STAY BEAUTIFUL AND STAY BLESSED!
